WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT MEMORY LOSS TODAY MAY HELP TOMORROW

Many people today are being treated for mild, moderate and even severe dementia of the Alzheimer’s type with ARICEPT.

So, if your parent or spouse is have difficulty finding their way home from the grocery store or repeating things over and over again, you are probably questioning whether it’s just “old age” or something maybe more serious.

Main Line Elder Care Associates urges you to talk to your health care provider as soon as possible because some of the treatments that are available today may slow down the symptoms, if it’s Alzheimer’s.

Here are just a few of the warning signs that you need to be aware of: Forgetfulness, unable to recall events, losing things more often, constantly repeating the same thing over and over again, an inability to do simple task, unable to to solve problems and sudden changes in mood or behavior.

All of these signs do not mean your loved one has Alzheimer’s but these noticeable changes will need to be be discussed with a health care provider, as soon as possible.

Memory loss caused by this disease cannot be cured, but the symptoms may be slowed.

Main Line Elder Care Associates understand that this is not an easy task and our RN Care Managers are available to help with this process because we also know from experience that the sooner you act, the better.

Contact Main Line Elder Care Associates to schedule an appointment to talk with one of our RN care managers to discuss an action plan and prepare a care plan or to schedule an Elder or Family Mediation.

Milkshake drug among promising Alzheimer’s treatment

One of four promising experimental drugs poised for large scale testing against the brain-destroying disease is a milkshake drug called Ketasyn.

There’s new research suggesting a diabetic like change in brain cells’ ability to use sugar for energy may play a role in at least some forms of Alzheimer’s.

Ketasyn offers an alternate food source which is prescribed to rev up those hungry neurons.

The international Alzheimer’s meeting in Washington recently reported that 150 patients had added Ketasyn to their regular medicine and it produced a small but “important boost in mental functioning.”

However, according to Lauren Constantini, a former Harvard University scientist, ” we see this drug as a co-therapy not a way to stop Alzheimer’s.

Main Line Elder Care Associates, Inc., a healthcare management company located in Pennsylvania will keep you informed via this blog when the results from Phase III become public. More information contact www.mainlineeldercare.com.
